SRI RAMA NAAMA MAHIMAI

II -- AKSHARA DHVAYAM VEDAM -- PARAM KEERTHANAM KALI NAASHANAM -- II

The "Two Letter Word" which is the essence of Vedas and by the chanting of which one can overcome the ill effects of Kali-Yugam.

There have been many instances that iterate the power and significance of Sri Rama Nama. "RAMA" is a 2 letter word made up of 3 syllables - 'Ra', 'a' and 'Ma', where 'Ra' symbolizes SUN, 'Ma' symbolizes Moon and 'a' symbolizes Agni(fire). The significance of chanting Rama Nama is that it is as soothing as the MOON, as bright and Vibrant as the SUN and at the same time it destroys the ill effects of the one who chants it like the FIRE.

The significance of chanting Sri Rama Nama is very well illustrated by Sri Aanjaneya Swami. This instance is depicted in the Ramayanam wherein Sri Vishwamitra approaches Sri Rama for the fact that he was insulted by the King of Kasi. He demands a suitable punishment to the King for having insulted a Sage like him. Sri Rama also promises to Viswamitra that the head of the King would be at the Sage's feet before Sunset.

Meanwhile, the King upon coming to know about this happening, approaches Sri Anjana Devi(Mother of Aanjaneya Swami) as per the advice of Sri Narada to protect him. Anjana Devi asks her son to protect the King, for she has promised the king of giving him shelter. Aanjaneya Swami without any hesitation agrees to obey his Mother's orders. Aanjaneya Swami formed a Fiort of is Mighty Tail and asked the King to be seated inside the fortress. Aanjaneya Swami himself sat on top of the fortress and started chanting Rama Naamam. Sri Rama who came in search of the King understood that the King has approached Sri Aanjaneya for help. Knowing this, Sri Rama comes to the place where Sri Aanjaneya Swami is sitting, and warns him of a War, but was stunned by the fact that his beloved devotee is unmoved by his orders. Enraged by this Sri Rama starts shooting Arrows in the direction of Sri Aanjaneya Swami and the Tail Fortress.

RAMA BAANAM, the divine arrow of Sri Rama, which never goes in vain or fails and has the feature of always striking the target, starts returning back without destroying the target, much to the astonishment of Sri Rama. A tense atmosphere of war is taking place. Sri Rama, who is known for his kindness and soothing nature, is shooting arrow after arrow, astra after astra, but, everything returns back. Sri Rama himself was astonished at the reason as to why this was happening. At this time, Maharishi Vasishtacharya arrives at the war scene and asks Rama to calm down. Upon the instruction of his Guru when Rama stops the shooting of the Arrows, all at the scene hear a constant and vibrant chant of "RAMA RAMA RAMA RAMA" filling the air. Everybody could make out that the chant was coming from Sri Aanjaneya Swami because none other in this world can Chant Sri Rama's Name with so much Devotion and from deep within the Heart.

Only then did the people in the war scene realize that the reason for Sri Rama's Arrows to go in vain was the name of Sri Rama himself. It was the Rama Nama chanting that hit back Sri Rama's Divine arrows as well.

This was an instance to show the world the Power and Supremacy of Sri Rama Namam.
